A Taste of Key West 2012

Published by Miss Prissy on April 26th, 2012 - in Out & About
To say this is one of my favorite Key West events of the year is an understatement.  Food, wine, and the proceeds going to AIDS Help leave nothing to dislike.  Well, let me clarify…the crowds can be a bit much, HOWEVER…the more crowded it is, the more money the charity makes so it’s all good.

Just like last year, we purchased our tickets early.  An improvement we made this year was getting there even earlier than we did in 2011.

El Meson de Pepe

So it was time.  I love Cuban cuisine and despite the negative things many say about El Meson de Pepe, we had to try for ourselves.  In over 22 years living here, The Handsome Captain™ only had drinks here.

Once again this past Easter, we went back and forth like we did last year regarding where we would enjoy the holiday.  For the record, next year we already know we are staying home 🙂

Anyway, we abhor the whole “bring your family and line up at the trough” buffets and figured the big long line would be at Blue Heaven, leaving Colombian Grace to the “non-huddled masses”.  It totally worked for us.  It never fails that each time we go, the patrons are a melting pot of cultures (which we love).

The Great Stone Crab Debate a/k/a “Who’s Got The Crabs?” by CaptBonez

Published by Miss Prissy on April 15th, 2012 - in Prissy's Privilege
“Everybody seems to love stone crabs but not many people know or understand what it takes to get them.  Some friends and I have some recreational stone crab traps that we work during the 7 month season. The state permits us 5 traps per person: the traps are a 16 inch square ‘box’ made from either plastic or wood slats,
