Penn & Kyla’s Weekend Picks: Mar 22

Published by Miss Prissy on March 22nd, 2012 - in Out & About
So I’m here, I’m here, I’m here!!!  Okay Kyla is with me too, but she’s going to be pictured second this week.  Mom has trouble fixing our big beautiful faces next to each other, so from hereon in, we get BIG FACE time!

Anyway, there are lots of things going on this weekend, but we like to point out things with a more local flavor.

We’d also like to point out that we don’t think our Mom always uses the most attractive pictures of us.  I look like a Mr. Dog Potato Head with this ginormous head and two little feet!  So what do you like?  Family-friendly ocean festivities? Cuban nightlife? Croquet?

Me me me, Kyla’s turn!

1)  “3rd Annual Mote Marina Laboratory Florida Keys Ocean Festival”, Sat Mar 24 from 12-6pm at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center on the Truman Waterfront.  Fun, food, live animals, and it’s educational too! www.keysoceanfest.org

2)  “Hot Havana Nights”, Sat Mar 24 from 7-11pm at The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden”, 5210 College Road, Stock Island.  “Cuban culture at its’ hottest” is the theme and locals love this event!  Salsa dancing, a Cuban market with food and mojitos, and a silent auction are just what Mom LOVES!  Add the VIP package and enjoy an authentic Cuban dinner and open bar from 5:30-7:30pm.  For more information, visit kwbgs.org

3)  “Key West Lawn Party and Croquet Tournament for Womankind”, Sun Mar 25 at Ed Knight’s mansion on Thompson Island off South Roosevelt Boulevard.  Go back in time to a time period between WWI and II where elegant people wore white while playing croquet and sipping cocktails oceanside.  While it may be too late to be on a team of two (at $200 each…it includes open bar, lunch, and a private cocktail party on Saturday evening), it’s not too late to be a spectator at $85 (includes unlimited champagne and a catered lunch).  Spectators are welcome at 11am.  There is a best-dressed competition and we heard Mom say she and Daddy are going next year.  This goes to a great cause, by the way.  Womankind provides affordable women’s primary and gynecological health care.  For more on this event, contact Cali Roberts at (305)-294-4004.

Want an extra event?  Okay, “Keys’ Stock Music Festival”, Sat Mar 24 at the Lazy Lakes RV Resort in Sugarloaf Key.  Remember Blood Sweat and Tears?  Well my Mom does because she’s like REALLY old.  Anyway, they will be performing along with Howard Livingston & the Mile Marker 24 Band and a host of other bands for charity.  The fundraiser benefits KOA Care Camp, an organization that sends cancer-stricken children and their siblings to summer camp.  Tickets are $15 in advance and $25 at the door.  For more information, click here or call (305)-745-1079.

Have the greatest weekend ever.

Poodle Woofs,

Penn & Kyla
